Glenorchy, Queenstown Lakes District, New Zealand

    Maps

Glenorchy (pop. 200), located at the head of Lake Wakatipu, is reached via one of New Zealand’s most spectacular scenic roads 48km North of Queenstown. The lakeside town is situated at the convergence of the Rees and Dart Rivers and the head of Lake Wakatipu - in addition, the convergence of Fiordland NP (Humboldt Mountains), Mt Aspiring NP and the Richardson Mountains.

Sealed all the way, the road follows the Wakatipu shoreline, sometimes at the waters edge, other times high above the lake offering spectacular views as the head of the lake approaches and the snow capped ring of mountains around Glenorchy begin to unfold.

Glenorchy is reached in 35 to 45 minutes and the peaceful tranquility and unsurpassed views and scenery as far as Mt Aspiring, will leave you gob-smacked. Our accommodation in the township offers a place to unwind and enjoy nature, alternatively a base for an action-filled break.
